本書是文史學者胡文輝在「六合叢書」名下編定的第四本文集。 可看作《洛城論學二集》後續，但較之少了評論性的文字。 所收文章大抵屬於徵文考獻一類，可歸入胡適之所謂"文史之學"範圍。 文章按題目分為四類：類有關古代問題的考證，后三類皆代問題，其中多牽世人物，勉強區別為學術史、掌故兩類，又有若干名言考原的文字，則別為第四類。
