EDITOR’S NOTE

This series of our national security textbooks comprises four volumes, intended for teachers and pupils across four distinct educational stages: lower primary, upper primary, junior secondary, and senior secondary. It serves as an authoritative resource for national security education.

In the course of modern societal development, a spectrum of risks—both visible and invisible—are exerting a profound impact on human life and well-being. These risks may threaten personal safety and property, jeopardise national interests, and ultimately undermine the security of society and its individuals. Therefore, safeguarding national security is essential to protect vital national interests and ensure the safety and well-being of every citizen.

Proceeding from basic to advanced concepts across diverse domains, the textbooks elucidate the Holistic Approach to National Security through vivid historical and contemporary cases from China and abroad. This methodology enables readers to develop a systematic understanding of the essence of national security, its key components, its impacts on individuals, and the approaches to safeguarding it.

Each volume is divided into units focusing on specific security domains, with each unit further subdivided into lessons. To facilitate effective teaching and learning, sections such as Warm-up, Engage, Knowledge Card, Explore, After-class Activities, Unit Assessment, Observe and Reflect are included to broaden perspectives, reinforce learning, and assess learning outcomes.

We welcome constructive feedback from our readers for the further refinement of this textbook series.
