敘述清初以至現代哲學思想之變遷，故名中國近三百年哲學史。著者蔣維喬在光華大學教授中國哲學史時，隨講隨編而成。《中國近三百年哲學史》取材極近，如梁啟超、王國維之哲學思想，亦皆采入。蔣維喬（1873-1958），著名教育家、哲學家、佛學家、養生家。字竹庄，自號因是子。江蘇武進（今常州）人。著有《中國近三百年哲學史》、《呂氏春秋匯要》，以及與楊大膺合著的《中國哲學史綱要》、《宋明理學綱要》等；在佛學方面的著作，則有《中國佛教史》、《佛學概論》、《佛教淺測》、《佛學綱要》、《大乘廣五蘊論注》等。其中以《中國佛教史》在社會上流傳最廣。
