本書由《外台本<傷寒雜病論>》《病源本<傷寒論>》《淳化本<傷寒論>》合併而成。


《外台本<傷寒雜病論>》是從《外台秘要方》中輯錄出的張仲景文獻，比定型于宋代的《傷寒論》《金匱要略》約早300年，較多地保存了張仲景《傷寒雜病論》的原貌。《病源本<傷寒論>》是現存最早的《傷寒論》傳本之一，收錄于《諸病源后論》中，以卷七、卷八“傷寒病諸候”為主。《淳化本<傷寒論>》是指宋淳化三年成書的《太平聖惠方》中的《傷寒論》內容。
