In Hong Kong in 100 Photos, professional photographer Joyce Yung tells the story of her beloved city using the medium she knows best. Each chosen photo represents an endearing slice of Hong Kong, captured by a veteran who has been to all its corners.
The result is a stunning visual memoir that allows the reader to gain insight into the city’s daily workings, urban quirks and cultural traditions, as well as admire its pristine natural landscapes. Equal parts fine art and practical destination guide, Hong Kong in 100 Photos is as adept at gracing coffee tables as it is at igniting some serious travel inspiration.
The approximately 200-page book is divided into four broad sections, each capturing a distinct aspect of the city. There is no chronological or hierarchical order to the photos or sections, apart from a thematic flow that aims to make sense of the multiple sides of Hong Kong.
Daily Living documents the day-to-day wonders of the city and the people in it.
Urban Rhythms provides a snapshot of the infrastructure that makes the city tick.
Culture & Heritage looks at the traditions and practices that make the city so colorful and vibrant.
Natural Perspectives offers a macro view of the very land that the city is built on.
