一般人常以為，孟荀兩子的人性論是對立的學說。

其實，孟子是在理想世界中論人性，荀子則是在現實世界中論人性。故表面上，他們雖有不同的結論，但事實上，兩者並不構成針鋒相對的學說。何況，他們都以主觀的方法論斷人性。所以沒有誰是誰非的問題。
