當代著名文學批評家、文史學家，中國當代文學研究領域的標誌性人物。在香港浸會大學中文系教授多年，並曾任北京大學中文系客座教授、中國人民大學文學院客座教授。著有《沉思的老樹的精靈》、《灰闌中的敍述》等。
