《金史》撰成於元代，全書一百三十五卷，其中本紀十九卷，志三十九卷，表四卷，列傳七十三卷，是反映女真族所建金朝的興衰始末的重要史籍。 《金史》是元修三史之一，最早議修於元世祖中統二年（公元1261年），以後在至元元年、十六年，以及仁宗朝、文宗朝都分別議論過修史的事，都因義例難定未付諸實行，直到元順帝至正三年（公元1343年），才決定”各與正統”，《遼》、《金》、《宋》三史分別撰修。翌年十一月，《金史》告成，前後用了不到一年的時間。修三史的都總裁官是右丞相脫脫，參加修《金史》的有鐵木爾塔識、張起岩、歐陽玄、王沂、楊宗瑞等，其中歐陽玄的貢獻最為突出，他制訂《金史》撰修的發凡舉例，書中的論、贊、表、奏皆他屬筆。
