本故事的主角是四位倫敦的小孩－ Peter 、Susan 、Edmund 以及 Lucy ，由於第二次世界大戰倫敦飽受空襲威脅，孩童都被疏散到鄉間的宅邸，這四位 Pevensie 家的孩童被安排送到一位老教授 Digory Kirke 的大宅，在這古宅當中他們發現了一個神奇的衣櫥，居然可以藉由它通往一個神奇的魔法王國－納尼亞。那是一個動物會說話的神奇世界，但是邪惡的白衣女巫 Jadis 卻將魔手染指一切，孩子們必須加入正義精神領袖雄獅 Aslan 的一方，結合所有反對女巫的勢力，讓納尼亞重返和平。
