是馮友蘭先生根據1946至1947年間在美國賓夕法尼亞大學講授中國哲學史的講稿整理而成的英文著作。是1948年以來，中國人用英文介紹中國文化，流傳最廣、影響最大的作品。同時收錄馮先生英文原作和塗又光先生中文譯本。附人名及書篇名索引。馮友蘭（1895-1990），字芝生，河南唐河人。哲學家，哲學史家。曾就學於北京大學、哥倫比亞大學，獲哥倫比亞大學哲學博士學位。1928年起，任清華大學哲學系教授兼哲學系主任、文學院院長、校務會議主席。抗戰期間任西南聯大哲學系主任兼文學院院長。1952年起任北京大學哲學系教授，為中國科學院哲學社會科學學部委員。主要著作有《中國哲學史》、《新理學》、《新事論》、《新世訓》、《新原人》、《新原道》、《新知言》等。論着編為《三松堂全集》。
