張岱年先生的最后一本學術專着，寫成於1987年，是張先生幾十年來思考探索中國古代哲學概念范疇體系之總結概括。選取在中國古典哲學中起知名品牌作用，意義較為深奧難解，歧義較多之概念范疇，如「天」、「道」、「氣」、「理」等60組條目，分為自然哲學、人生哲學、知識論三大類。對每一概念皆引證原始文獻，詳述歷代各家對其理解發揮，循名責實，尤重演變歷程及各家學說之精微差異。是一部體例獨特、便於查閱的中國哲學基本理論著作。張岱年，原名宇同，別名季同，出生於北京，河北獻縣人。中國現代哲學家、哲學史家。畢業於北京師范大學，歷任清華大學哲學系教授、北京大學哲學系教授、清華大學思想文化所所長、中國科學院哲學研究所兼職研究員、中國哲學史學會會長等。長期從事中國哲學史研究，著作等身，有極高的造詣和廣泛的建樹。其代表作《中國哲學大綱》至今仍是中國哲學專業的必讀書目。
